(Melekeok Elementary School)

As part of the Education Awareness Week, the Embassy of Japan visited different elementary schools to give a presentation introducing Japan and its relationship with Palau.

Ms. Hanako Kurosawa, Ms. Risa Tanimoto and Mr. Bunker Ruluked from the Embassy of Japan went to Geroge B. Harris Elementary School, Melekeok Elementary School and joined the Learning Fair at the Koror Elementary School. The presentation looked at Japanese cultural influences in Palau in areas like food, music, language, names, sports, and games. The presentation then tracked the events that molded Japan and Palau’s current relationship. The Embassy staff also explained about the diplomatic ties between Japan and Palau, Embassy activities such as official development assistance, cultural exchanges and people-to-people exchange. The presentation touched upon some of Japanese modern culture as well.

At the end of the presentation, a quiz was held and prizes were awarded to the group that earned the most points. The Embassy is very grateful to the students and teachers who enthusiastically took part in our activities, and hopes that they broadened their understanding of Japan and its relationship with Palau.

In addition to the three schools mentioned above, the Embassy will visit Meyuns Elementary School to give the presentation on March 18. For schools interested in arranging the presentation by Embassy of Japan, please contact Mr. Bunker Ruluked (@ 488 6455).
